FashMobile kicks off series of fashion activities in September (with photos)
****************************************************************************
FashMobile, a specially decorated truck featuring the works of local fashion designers, was launched today (September 1), kicking off a wide array of activities set to promote local fashion designers and brands in September.

FashMobile will visit different districts and stop at six of the busiest points, namely Central, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Tsuen Wan and Tseung Kwan O, to reach out to the community.

Officiating at the fashion truck's launch ceremony, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, said, "With FashMobile hitting the road today, we are ushering in this September series of fashion-related activities to showcase the endless creativity of local fashion talent, and for fashion enthusiasts as well as the public to participate and share the excitement of the fashion industry."

These activities include Fashion PMQ organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre and Fashion Mirage organised by the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association, while the Hong Kong Trade Development Council will present the CENTRESTAGE event. The first two activities are sponsored by Create Hong Kong.

FashMobile is a prelude to Fashion PMQ, which is a fashion carnival at PMQ featuring some 40 local fashion and accessories designers. The highlight is a three-day admission-free Fashion Mart (September 9 to 11) with a fashion bazaar, lifestyle and photo exhibitions together with music performance, designer dialogues and style and make-up talks. There will also be a number of Fashion Crossover Pop-ups (September 7 to 19) at various PMQ studios to feature and sell design products of different and cross disciplines.

Moreover, the first CENTRESTAGE, a brand new international fashion trade show, will be staged at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 7 to 10. The trade show will feature some 200 fashion brands from 20 countries and regions, as well as more than 50 spectacular events, including a large-scale opening gala fashion show.

Another fashion show - Fashion Mirage - will be held on the opening day of CENTRESTAGE on September 7. It will feature new collections presented by some 50 local fashion designers of different generations.

"We have set our sights on the fashion industry as one of the engines for propelling the growth of Hong Kong’s creative industries. We attach great importance to its development. Promoting local fashion designers and brands as well as nurturing fashion design start-ups will be our priorities in the next few years," Mr So said.

Looking ahead, the Government and the trade will continue to roll out a number of promotional activities, a design incubation programme, and programmes related to technical training to further promote the growth of the local fashion industry.
