Public Art Scheme at Tsun Yip Street Playground calls for artists
*****************************************************************
The Public Art Scheme for Tsun Yip Street Playground, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), is now calling on artists, architects, designers and art groups to submit proposals to create public artworks for the Tsun Yip Street Playground Phase 2 (the site) in Kwun Tong, to enhance the vibrancy of public spaces for public enjoyment.

The scheme is organised by the Art Promotion Office (APO) and supported by the Energizing Kowloon East Office. Participants should create outdoor public artworks for the site’s seven locations using seven selected local industries as the themes, namely printing, clothing and garments, textile, toys, plastics, electronics and timepieces. The proposed artworks should be new and original works of the participants, as well as being technically feasible for the site and location. The commissioning budget ceiling for each commissioned artwork is $1 million.

The scheme will involve a two-stage selection and commission process. At Stage 1, interested participants have to submit their preliminary proposal, including the participant's curriculum vitae, documentation of the participant’s previous artwork and the artistic concept of the artwork. All proposals must be delivered to the Public Art Unit of the APO (Oi!, 12 Oil Street, North Point, Hong Kong) by post or by hand before 8pm, October 31 (Monday). The proposals will be short-listed by the selection panel in November. Short-listed participants are required to submit detailed proposals and a model by the end of February, 2017 for Stage 2 selection. Final results will be announced in June next year.

Those interested in the scheme are invited to join a site visit to be held at 10am on September 24 (Saturday). Interested participants should register before September 22. For details of the scheme, the entry form and site visit reservations, please visit the APO website at www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum/APO/en_US/web/apo/pas-tysp.html or call 2512 3018 / 2512 3034 / 2512 3020.

The Public Art Scheme was launched in 1999 and is one of the major public art projects presented by the LCSD and organised by the APO. Through open competition and by invitation, public artworks have been installed at parks, libraries, theatres, city halls and government buildings which aim to offer visitors and users an opportunity to appreciate site-specific artworks by local artists when using these public buildings and spaces.
