Hong Kong Customs seizes mosquito repellent products with suspected false trade descriptions (with photo)

Customs officers earlier posed as customers and test purchased four types of mosquito repellent products which claimed to contain methyl nonyl ketone. Examination by the Government Laboratory revealed that none of the four types of mosquito repellent products contain the ingredient. Customs officers took action yesterday and seized the four types of mosquito repellent products with suspected false trade descriptions from 10 traders. The case is still under investigation.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance (TDO), any person who supplies goods with a false trade description in the course of trade or business, or has in his possession for sale any goods with a false trade description, or importing goods to which a false trade description was applied, commits a criminal offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
