Government proposes to install cable system from Siu Sai Wan to Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate
******************************************************************************************
     The Government proposes to allow Superloop (Hong Kong) Limited to install an optical fibre submarine cable of approximately 2.30 kilometres in length and 50 millimetres in diameter within an area of approximately 1 150 square metres of foreshore and seabed from Siu Sai Wan (SSW) to Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate (TKOIE) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region waters.

     The project is part of the Tseung Kwan O Express - Cable System. A cable-laying barge will simultaneously lay and bury the submarine cable from the seabed offshore from SSW across the Tathong Channel to TKOIE at a depth of about 5 metres below the seabed. The width of temporary disturbance will be about 0.5m.

     The total length of the Tseung Kwan O Express - Cable System will be about 2.67km. The first 370m or thereabouts of the cable from the SSW direction will be installed using the horizontal directional drilling method in which the first 140m or thereabouts of the cable will be installed in the underground spaces while the rest will be installed under the seabed without involving any works over or upon any foreshore and seabed. The Cable System will support the information and communications technology sector in Hong Kong to cope with the present and future demand for network bandwidth.

     The proposed works are scheduled tentatively to commence in October 2016 for completion by December 2016.

     The extent of the area of foreshore and seabed affected is described today (July 29) in a notice published in the Government Gazette.

     The notice together with its related plan are posted near the site. The plan can also be seen at the following locations:

* Lands Department Survey and Mapping Office (23/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong) (where copies can be purchased on order);
