Suspect in connection with a murder and robbery case returned to Hong Kong

     Hong Kong Police received a 41-year-old suspect in connection with a murder and robbery case from the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department at the Lok Ma Chau Boundary Control Point today (July 28).

     The Police Director of Crime and Security, Mr Au Chi-kwong spoke at the surrender ceremony held at Huanggang, Shenzhen that Hong Kong Police were grateful for the invaluable assistance rendered by the Ministry of Public Security, Criminal Investigation Bureau of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, Shenzhen Public Security Bureau and Heyuan Public Security Bureau, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.

     “The surrender ceremony today demonstrates the determination of the Police of the two places in combating crimes jointly. It also sends an unequivocal message to the criminals and assures the public that Police of the two places will continue to strengthen cooperation with a view to maintaining law and order and protecting lives and property,” Mr Au said.

     “Police of the two places will continue to step up policing cooperation and exchange of intelligence so as to combat crimes effectively and safeguard law and order of Hong Kong and Guangdong.”

     The 41-year-old male suspect was suspected to be in connection with a murder and robbery case happened on March 14 this year in Tai Po in which a 71-year-old man was killed.

     Extensive investigations by Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North led to the identification of the suspect. As he was believed to have left for the Mainland, Hong Kong Police sought the assistance of the Ministry of Public Security and Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department. The man was subsequently arrested in Guangdong.

     Active investigation by the Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North is underway.
