BD clarifies media reports on Amoycan Industrial Centre on Ngau Tau Kok Road
****************************************************************************
In response to some media reports today (July 19) that the Buildings Department (BD) has ordered the owners of Amoycan Industrial Centre on Ngau Tau Kok Road to carry out emergency propping for the building, a spokesman for the BD clarified that the department has neither issued any urgent notices to the owners concerned nor mentioned that there was a danger of collapse.

The BD issued a number of statutory orders, including removal orders, repair orders and investigation orders, to the building owners on July 15. The department has reminded the owners to follow up with the statutory orders actively.

The spokesman stressed that the BD has never issued any urgent notices stating that the columns were deformed or there was a danger of collapse. The department has neither requested the owners concerned to immediately carry out propping for any columns nor mentioned that there was a danger of collapse.

According to the assessment of structural elements made by the BD and the data obtained from the laboratory tests on the samples collected by the department, there is no danger of collapse of the overall building structure.

The spokesman said that the owners concerned must comply with the statutory orders issued by the department for the building within the specified period. Failure to comply with the statutory orders within the specified period without reasonable excuse is an offence. The BD may instigate prosecution against the owners under the Buildings Ordinance.
