CS to visit Sichuan

    The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, will lead a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) delegation to visit Sichuan from May 10 to 12 to conclude the HKSAR Government¡¦s work in support of the reconstruction of stricken areas in Sichuan in the aftermath of the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008.

    While in Sichuan, Mrs Lam will officiate at the breakthrough  ceremony for the section of Provincial Road 303 from Yingxiu to Wolong and the opening ceremony of a park for giant pandas. They are major projects of the HKSAR Government-led reconstruction works, and are important for the sustainable development and conservation of the Wolong Nature Reserve.  She will also meet with officials of the Sichuan Provincial Government, attend ¡§SmartHK, Chengdu¡¨ organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, visit Tianfu New District and the Chengdu Planning Exhibition Hall, and meet with Hong Kong people living or doing business in Sichuan.

    Those accompanying Mrs Lam to visit Sichuan will include the Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim; the Permanent Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Ms Chang King-yiu; the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Hon Chi-keung; the Under Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan; and the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Godfrey Leung. The delegation will also include volunteers from different sectors for reconstruction projects and media representatives.

    Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon on May 12. During her absence, the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, will act as Chief Secretary for Administration.
