International IT Fest 2016 to showcase HK's innovation and technology

     The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, in collaboration with the local information and communications technology (ICT) industry, will stage the International IT Fest 2016 from April 11 to 23. It will feature more than 40 events that showcase Hong Kong's achievements in innovation and technology.

     As a highlight of this year's International IT Fest, the inaugural Internet Economy Summit will be held on April 13 to explore the future development and strategies of the Internet-driven economy. The Summit will draw together renowned ICT experts and leaders from East to West including 58.com and Ganji.com, Alibaba Group, Cherrypicks, Digital China, Facebook, Frost and Sullivan, GrowingIO, HP Enterprises, Huawei, Microsoft, MTR Corporation, Wearable IoT World, Xiaomi and others.  

     The Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Allen Yeung, said today (April 6), "Internet technology has been disrupting the way our economy works and develops, especially on consumer and business behaviours. Many believe it is the key driver of sustainable economic growth in the future. No doubt it is a challenge as well as an opportunity for us. The summit aims to shed some more light on the way ahead."

     Other exciting highlight events include CalConnect XXXVI Hong Kong, the first conference of the Calendaring and Scheduling Consortium to be held in the Asia-Pacific region; the HKTDC International ICT Expo 2016 - the leading expo featuring global ICT solutions for different industries; and the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2016 Presentation Ceremony, an annual fixture to recognise and promote Hong Kong's outstanding ICT inventions and applications.

     For secondary students, about 50 tailor-made ICT student tours will be held to give them a better understanding of ICT facilities and a taste of the ICT workplace. Over 1,000 students have applied to join the tours. Moreover, the IET/MATE Hong Kong Underwater Robot Challenge 2016, the AppJamming Summit 2016-App Design Competition and the Cyberport mYouth Mobile App Code Jam Competition 2016 are not-to-be-missed events for young ICT talents.

     Now in its fourth edition, the International IT Fest reinforces Hong Kong's position as an ICT hub in the Asia-Pacific region. The 40 plus events cover a wide range of ICT domains in which Hong Kong is developing quickly, such as Fintech, e-Commerce, smart city, big data, Internet of Things, start-ups, cyber security and mobile technology.
