*********************************************************

Police today (December 30) have issued the Letter of No Objection to the organiser of the public event to be held on January 1 on Hong Kong Island. Police appeal to the organiser to conduct the event in a lawful and orderly manner.

Police respect the public's freedoms of expression, speech and assembly all along. It is the policy of Police to facilitate all peaceful public events while at the same time ensuring public safety and public order.

Police have conducted risk assessment on the event and will deploy suitable manpower and make necessary arrangement according to the situation so that the public event can be conducted in a safe and peaceful environment.

Police remind participants of the public event to comply with the law and express their views in a peaceful and rational manner. Police also appeal to them not to commit any violent acts.  Should there be any confrontation, they should protect their own safety, maintain a safe distance from the violent protestors or leave the scene at once so as to give Police enough space to deal with any violent and unlawful acts. If the public spot any suspicious persons or objects, they should inform Police under safety circumstances.

Police will take resolute enforcement actions against any illegal acts to preserve public order and safeguard public safety.
