The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, met with the Minister of Culture, Mr Luo Shugang, in Beijing today (November 24), introducing the latest work of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government in promoting the development of culture, as well as exploring new opportunities to foster development of art and culture between Hong Kong and the Mainland.
Mr Lau said, "Over the years, the HKSAR Government has signed 20 agreements on cultural co-operation with the Ministry of Culture, local governments of various provinces and municipalities and relevant departments to promote cultural exchange through joint efforts. Looking to the future, Hong Kong will deepen and broaden cultural exchanges with countries of the 'Belt and Road' to take up a more proactive role."
With the support of the Ministry of Culture, Hong Kong has successfully held numerous large-scale exhibitions. The most recent examples are "The Rise of the Celestial Empire" and "Western Scientific Instruments of the Qing Court", while exhibitions including a Maritime Silk Road of China group exhibition of eight cities on fine works of cultural heritage as well as a Dunhuang culture art show will be jointly organised in the future.
This afternoon, Mr Lau paid a visit to the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council. He also visited the flyover area for performing arts in Beijing and the Palace Museum as well as discussed experiences in organising major heritage exhibitions with the Museum. Mr Lau will meet with the Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, Mr Liu Peng, in Beijing tomorrow (November 25). He will return to Hong Kong in the evening.
