Transcript of remarks by SLW on wage claims by DSC employees
************************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on the wage claims by employees of DSC, after attending a radio programme this morning (August 18):

Reporter: What is the latest update on the DSC case and also how would you help the other 16 staff members not covered by the four firms under the compulsory winding-up process?

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: We are attaching importance to this case and in fact the Labour Department has been in touch with the provisional liquidator. We had a meeting with the employee representatives and also some LegCo members. The latest position is the Labour Department will urge the provisional liquidator to provide all the data, in particular to verify the wage claims of all the employees concerned, so that we can activate the process for payment under the Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund. I assure everybody that the Labour Department will do what it can to expedite the process in the interest of the employees concerned. As regards the 16 employees not covered in the compulsory winding-up process, the department will refer them to the Labour Tribunal and at the same time help them to secure legal aid so that they can trigger the process of compulsory winding-up of the firm.
