The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Paul Tang, today (June 29) visited Kwun Tong District to learn about the latest developments in the district and to meet with Kwun Tong District Council members.

Accompanied by the Chairman of Kwun Tong District Council, Dr Bunny Chan, and the District Officer (Kwun Tong), Mr Gilford Law, Mr Tang first visited the Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO). Mr Tang noted that the multi-disciplinary EKEO was inaugurated to steer, supervise, oversee and monitor the development of Kowloon East with a view to facilitating its transformation into another attractive core business district of Hong Kong to support our economic growth and strengthen our global competitiveness.

Later, Mr Tang proceeded to the Anderson Road public housing construction sites, where he was briefed by staff on project development. The Anderson Road construction sites comprise two estates, namely On Tai Estate and On Tat Estate, which will provide a total of about 17 900 public rental housing units accommodating around 48 500 residents. He learnt that the project will be completed in stages from the third quarter of 2015 to the second quarter of 2017. Other facilities to be provided include district open space to accommodate a 7-a-side soccer pitch, a children's play area, fitness stations, and an ancillary facilities block accommodating social welfare facilities.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Tang met with district council members to listen to their views on various developments in the district and other matters of community concern.
