In order to support the development of Hong Kong's aviation industry and at the invitation of Cathay Pacific Airways (Cathay Pacific), the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, will take Cathay Pacific's direct flight to Boston on May 4 and attend its dinner reception there in celebration of the launch of direct flight services between Hong Kong and Boston.
Mr Leung will also take the opportunity to lead a delegation comprising government officials, industry leaders and academics from the innovation and technology sector to visit top-notch research institutions in Boston and learn more about the development of innovation and technology there.
On May 5, Mr Leung will visit two leading academic research institutions, namely the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab and the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. He will also attend a luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York, to meet with representatives of Boston business chambers and local leaders.
Accompanying Mr Leung on the visit will be the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Mr Edward Yau; the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Miss Janet Wong; the Director of Information Services, Mr Patrick Nip; the Private Secretary to the Chief Executive, Mr Carlson Chan; and the Assistant Director (Media), Mr Anson Lai. The Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, will also join the visit.
Mr Leung will depart for Boston in the evening on May 4 and return to Hong Kong in the morning on May 7. During his absence, the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, will be the Acting Chief Executive.
