The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, will visit Brussels in Belgium, Dublin in Ireland, and Rome and Venice in Italy from May 3 to 9 (Sunday to Saturday).
On arrival in Europe on May 3, Mrs Lam will briefly stop in Amsterdam to meet with the Hong Kong community in the Netherlands before proceeding to Belgium at noon. During her stay in Brussels, she will meet with senior officials of the European Commission and Members of the European Parliament to strengthen ties. She will also meet with senior Belgium officials, speak at a business luncheon and visit a cluster for creative industries.
In Dublin, Mrs Lam will meet with senior officials to enhance bilateral relations, especially as Ireland just opened its consulate general in Hong Kong last year. She will visit an information and communication technology facility. She will also speak at Trinity College Dublin and at a business dinner jointly organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels, Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
On arrival in Rome, Mrs Lam will meet with senior government officials and members of the Parliament of Italy before proceeding to Venice. As Chairman of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), she will officiate at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Pavilion at the Venice Biennale jointly presented by the Hong Kong Art Development Council (HKADC) and the WKCDA, and meet with the organiser of the Venice Biennale to exchange experiences in art development. She will also meet with representatives of the Veneto Region Government and officiate at a dinner with the international art community organised by the HKADC and WKCDA.
Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong in the morning on May 10. During her absence, the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, will act as Chief Secretary for Administration.
