Local pianist Cherry Tsang to perform virtuoso compositions

     Talented local pianist Cherry Tsang will perform a selection of virtuoso compositions in June.

     The programme will feature Beethoven's "Piano Sonata No. 31 in A-flat, Op. 110", Ravel's "Jeux d'eau", Chopin's "Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante in E-flat, Op. 22", Rachmaninov's "Sonata in G Minor for Cello and Piano, Op. 19" (Third Movement) and Franck's "Prélude, Choral et Fugue".

     Tsang received her bachelor's degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and her master's degree and doctorate in Piano Performance from the Eastman School of Music in the United States. Her principal teachers included Gabriel Kwok and Barry Snyder, and she was a teaching assistant for Snyder from 2008 to 2011.

     Tsang maintains an active career. She has performed recitals and chamber music throughout Europe, Asia and the United States, where she made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2009. She has collaborated with various orchestras, including the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra and the Eastman Symphony Orchestra, working with conductors Neil Varon, Alan Cumberland and Christoph Campestrini, among many others.

     As a member of the Eastman BroadBand Ensemble, Tsang toured Mexico and performed at the Cervantino Festival. A dedicated chamber musician, she has also performed in the US at the Sanibel Music Festival in Florida and venues such as Kneisel Hall in Maine, Symphony Space in New York, the Miller Theatre at Columbia University and the George Eastman House in New York City.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Our Music Talents Series: Piano Recital by Cherry Tsang" will be staged at 8pm on June 5 (Friday) at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $120 and $160 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis).
