A nine-member team from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), acting as part of the China delegation, will attend a hearing to be held by the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (Committee) in Geneva, Switzerland on October 23.
The team, led by the Permanent Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Miss Annie Tam, will explain to the Committee the contents of the HKSARG's third report under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and answer the Committee's questions on the implementation of the Convention in Hong Kong.
The HKSAR's third report under the CEDAW was submitted as part of China's combined seventh and eighth periodic reports in early 2012. It details the progress on the implementation of the Convention in the HKSAR since the submission of the previous report in 2004 and addresses issues set out in the CEDAW Committee's Concluding Comments on the second report.
The Government's third report under the CEDAW and its response to a list of issues and questions put forward by the CEDAW Committee over the third report in March 2014 are available on the websites of the Labour and Welfare Bureau at www.lwb.gov.hk and the Women's Commission at www.women.gov.hk.
In addition to Labour and Welfare Bureau officials, the team also comprises the Chairperson of the Women's Commission, Mrs Stella Lau, and representatives from the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, the Department of Justice, the Labour Department and the Social Welfare Department.
