Islands District Basic Law promotion activities - concluding and sharing session (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of Islands District Council:

     The Working Group on Basic Law promotion of Islands District (the WG) under the Islands District Council (IsDC) organised the "Islands District Basic Law promotion activities ¡V concluding and sharing session" today (May 1) in the hall of Ling Liang Church E Wun Secondary School.

     Officiating guests included the Chairman of the IsDC, Mr Chow Yuk-tong; the Chairman of Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, Mr Tang Fei; the Vice-Chairman of the IsDC cum convenor of the WG, Ms Chau Chuen-Heung; the IsDC member cum vice-convenor of the WG, Mr Lai Tsz-man; and the District Officer (Islands), Mr Anthony Li. Mr Tang was also guest moderator of the sharing session to exchange ideas on the relevant provisions of the Basic Law concerning constitutional development with the participants. Basic Law exhibition and games were provided on site and were well-received by the public.

     Mr Li paid tribute to the WG for organising two courses, four forums, a quiz competition for secondary school students, a painting competition for primary school students, and roving exhibitions at different public places and schools within the district in a short period of time, adding that the activities could effectively disseminate Basic Law messages to different corners of the community.

     He also said that the public consultation period for "Methods for Electing the Chief Executive in 2017 and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2016" will end on May 3 and appealed to the public not to miss the chance to express their opinions so as to jointly move forward the constitutional development and achieve selection of the Chief Executive by universal suffrage.
