The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, in collaboration with its technology partners and the local information and communications technology (ICT) industry, will stage International IT Fest 2014 from April 7 to 20. The International IT Fest, featuring a series of events to showcase Hong Kong's information technology (IT) development and achievements, aims at reinforcing Hong Kong's position as an ICT hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

Speaking at a press briefing today (March 20), the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Daniel Lai, said, "Hong Kong is a digital city. We possess a robust IT infrastructure, a vibrant ICT sector and a tech-savvy population. Our ICT professionals are innovative and able to grasp the market trends and demands swiftly to develop many outstanding products that shine in the international arena.

"The Government is working with the ICT industry to present the International IT Fest. By featuring a series of exciting ICT events, the International IT Fest not only promotes public understanding of Hong Kong's ICT development, but also provides a platform for local and overseas industry players to exchange insight and foster collaboration.

"In its second edition, the International IT Fest will include more international elements and feature a series of international events. Some of these events are being held in Hong Kong for the first time. There will also be a number of events that are particularly suitable for the general public and students. Through these events, we hope that the public will be able to appreciate the convenience and benefits that can be brought about by IT in our daily life."

Other highlights this year include the newly arranged IT exploration tours for secondary students. Arrangements will be made for students to visit a number of IT facilities and renowned technology companies in Hong Kong to let them better understand the development of the local ICT industry and stimulate their interest in IT.

International IT Fest 2014 is bringing together 38 ICT events, including the annual signature event Hong Kong ICT Awards 2014 Awards Presentation Ceremony, which recognises outstanding local IT applications and solutions; the International ICT Expo, which is the largest of its kind in Asia; and a series of seminars, symposiums, conferences, competitions, award presentations, recognition schemes, exhibitions and a fun fair. The events will cover a wide range of ICT domains in which Hong Kong is developing fast, such as cloud computing, start-ups, cyber security, mobile technology, the Internet of Things, digital entertainment, e-learning, digital inclusion and more, together presenting a showcase of interactive Hong Kong.
