**********************************************************

Japanese mentaiko specialty restaurant Tararan-ya opened in Hong Kong today (March 12), establishing its main base for regional business expansion in the city.

Mentaiko - the marinated roe of pollock fish in a red chili pepper sauce - is a popular ingredient in Japanese cuisine.

Located in the prime Causeway Bay retail district, the new restaurant offers a selection of innovative dishes that include mentaiko in rice, sushi, potato salad and French bread. The restaurant also sells a range of high-quality mentaiko products.

The General Manager of Fukuya Seafood Co Ltd, Mr Yasushi Ogura, said that the company is committed to providing high-quality mentaiko products and hopes to use Hong Kong as the main base to promote mentaiko menus to Asian gourmet food lovers.

He said, "Hong Kong is the culinary capital of Asia. Discerning locals and visitors are constantly looking for new culinary experiences. There are many Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong, but few of them provide mentaiko specialty dishes. So there's a niche for us to develop in Hong Kong and expand in the Asia market."

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Mr Andrew Davis welcomed Tararan-ya's first restaurant in Hong Kong and said, "Hong Kong people love dining and they particularly like Japanese food. I believe that a niche Japanese restaurant like Tararan-ya can quickly establish itself as a favourite and win the appreciation of both local and overseas customers."
