SLW on labour dispute and poverty
*********************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on a labour dispute case and poverty after attending RTHK's City Forum today (October 6):

Reporter: (on a labour dispute case)

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: We will certainly follow up rigorously and establish the facts to protect the interest of the employees concerned.

Reporter: (on poverty)

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: Between now and January 15 next year - the Policy Address, we will certainly put in our best efforts, listen to the views of the community, consult the Commission on Poverty and also of course take account of the views of the community in drawing up a package of viable and sustainable measures and targeted approach to help those in need, particularly those identified in the exercise.  The working poor has been identified as the priority group because they got larger households, children, particularly young children, students and so on.  So they need support.  Also, it is all in keeping the objective of promoting employment, promoting self-reliance and tackling inter-generational poverty.
