The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, and the delegation of the Steering Committee on the Promotion of Green Building today (May 17) continued their visit to Singapore to learn about its policies and efforts in promoting energy efficiency and waste management.
In the morning, Mr Wong and the delegation first called on the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, to exchange views on environmental protection policies including energy efficiency, nature conservation and waste management. The party then met the Chairperson of the National Environment Agency, Ms Chew Gek Khim, to share their experience of policy implementation in solid waste management and energy efficiency.
In the afternoon, they toured an e-waste recycling plant, Cimelia Resource Recovery, which provides environmental solutions for waste electronics and electrical products using innovative technology. Before leaving Singapore, Mr Wong visited a waste-to-energy facility, Keppel Seghers Tuas Waste-to-Energy Plant, which is the first of its kind built under the Public-Private-Partnership in Singapore.
During the two-day visit, Mr Wong and the delegation toured a number of green building projects and exchanged views with various officials and organisations in Singapore on promoting green building, energy efficiency and waste management. Mr Wong said that Singaporeˇ¦s experience in implementing policies and measures can provide Hong Kong with valuable insight into the formulation of strategies and action plans on similar subjects.
Mr Wong and the delegation will conclude the visit and return to Hong Kong in the evening.
