Trio jailed for bank credit fraud
*********************************

Three women aged from 45 to 50 were each sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment at District Court today (January 9) in connection with a bank credit fraud.

The court heard that Police received a report from a local bank in 2009 that a local trading company had presented false trade documents including bills of lading and invoices to the bank for loan procurement. Extensive investigations by the Commercial Crime Bureau revealed that the trading company had deceived bank loans on 14 occasions amounting to US$3.96 million (about HK$30.89 million) from November 2007 to August 2008. The three women were subsequently arrested by Police.

The trio was later charged with corresponding offences and were convicted of 14 counts of conspiracy to defraud on December 19, 2011. Sentences were handed down today.

Police reiterated that they have full resolve in combating commercial crime of this nature in order to maintain Hong Kong's safe and stable business environment.
