Dredging and reclamation on south-western coast of Shek Kwu Chau

     The Government proposes to carry out dredging and reclamation works to the south-western coast of Shek Kwu Chau for the development of the Integrated Waste Management Facilities Phase 1.

     The works include dredging of the sea-bed, construction of cofferdam/ seawalls, breakwaters, berths and reclamation off Shek Kwu Chau.

     It also involves laying of submarine cables below the foreshore and sea-bed from the proposed reclaimed land near Shek Kwu Chau to Cheung Sha, Lantau Island.

     About 315 hectares of foreshore and sea-bed will be affected during the construction period.  Of this, about 16 hectares will be permanent reclamation area, cofferdam/ seawalls, breakwaters and berths.

     The work is scheduled to commence in 2013 and to be completed by 2018/2019.

     The extent of the area affected is described in a notice published in the Government Gazette today (April 29).

     The notice together with its related plan are posted on notice boards near the site.

     The plan can be seen and purchased on order at the Survey and Mapping Office of the Lands Department, 23rd Floor, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point.  It can also be seen at the Islands District Office, the Mui Wo Sub-office and the Cheung Chau Sub-office of the Islands District Office, and on the Lands Department's website (www.landsd.gov.hk) under Government Notices.

     Any person who considers that he has an interest, right or easement in or over the foreshore and sea-bed involved may submit a written objection to the Director of Lands, 20th Floor, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point on or before June 29, 2011.
