The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) received preliminary results from the testing laboratory today (April 24), indicating that the LPG sample collected from Chevron's filling station at Po Kong Village after completion of gas replacement on April 23 still failed to meet the Auto LPG Specification in respect of the ratio of propane/propylene and butane/butylene contents.
Upon receipt of the preliminary results, EMSD has asked Chevron to cease the sales of all auto-LPG until the LPG quality has been confirmed to comply with the Auto LPG Specification.
The EMSD spokesman said, "EMSD issued a press release on April 22, pointing out that the LPG samples taken from Chevron's LPG filling station at Po Kong Village on April 20 failed to meet the Auto LPG Specification in respect of the ratio of propane/propylene and butane/butylene contents. Upon notification of the test results, Chevron arranged to cease the sales of all auto LPG and to replace the auto LPG. After Chevron had completed the replacement of auto LPG at the filling station at Po Kong Village on April 23, EMSD took LPG sample from the station on that day for testing again."
The EMSD spokesman added, "Chevron collected three samples from their LPG terminal on April 21. The LPG quality of two of the LPG storage tanks was confirmed to comply with the Auto LPG Specification and such conforming LPG was used for gas replacement. However, the preliminary test results of LPG sample taken by EMSD on April 23 from the filling station at Po Kong Village showed that the LPG quality still failed to meet the Auto LPG Specification in respect of propane/propylene and butane/butylene contents. As such, EMSD has asked Chevron to cease sales of all auto LPG until the LPG quality has been confirmed. EMSD is very disappointed with the repeated occurrence of non-conforming LPG quality at Chevron's filling station at Po Kong Village and has urged Chevron to provide explanation as soon as possible."
The EMSD spokesman stressed, "Although the ratio of propane/propylene and butane/butylene contents of the LPG sample cannot comply with the Auto LPG Specification, it will not affect gas safety. In light of this case, EMSD will carry out a comprehensive review of the procedures for monitoring LPG quality."
