The "Hong Kong: Creative Ecologies ¡V Business, Living, Creativity" Design Exhibition being staged by the Hong Kong Design Centre in Shanghai would show visitors from around the world the vibrancy and characteristics of Hong Kong designers and enhance communication between creative industry talent in Shanghai and Hong Kong, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, said during a visit to the exhibition today (June 1).
The exhibition is a major project funded under the $300 million "CreateSmart Initiative" set up by Create Hong Kong. It is also one of the signature programmes organised by Hong Kong during the period of Shanghai Expo.
Mrs Lau saw masterpieces in a variety of creative genres presented by 40 internationally renowned Hong Kong designers, as well as sculptures expressing the personal style of 50 young designers.
"Hong Kong designers have a competitive edge in terms of design quality, market sense and global outlook. Hong Kong's annual 'Business of Design Week' has become one of most important events on the international design calendar. The 'Hong Kong: Creative Ecologies' exhibition provides a platform to showcase the international influence of our creative industry and talent. The event has our full support," Mrs Lau said.
"Hong Kong: Creative Ecologies ¡V Business, Living, Creativity" is a six-month multi-faceted programme featuring a series of events including three thematic shows and educational forums to profile the excellence and advantage of Hong Kong creative industries. It aims to promote the energy, style, innovation and branding power of Hong Kong designers to Mainland audiences and Expo visitors from around the world.
Mrs Lau also toured The Bridge 8, where the exhibition was held, to see how the site was developed into a creative cluster through revitalising old community facilities with the injection of innovative and technological elements.
