The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department announced today (December 16) that a notice under the Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance had been served to General Electric International Operations Co., Inc. (GEIOC) to remove the reference numbers of the following five compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) models. As a result, the concerned CFL models are not allowed to be supplied in Hong Kong.

The removal is based on the findings that the measured average lives are less than the rated average lives of these CFL models.
According to GEIOC, they have recalled most of the CFLs supplied in this year. GEIOC has also initiated a free replacement scheme for the concerned CFL models and a notice announcing the free replacement scheme is posted in newspapers today.
