The famous Shanghai Xiao Nan Guo Cuisine opens its fifth restaurant in Hong Kong
*********************************************************

Shanghai Xiao Nan Guo Cuisine opened its fifth restaurant in Hong Kong today (November 23).

Located at Sha Tin's New Town Plaza, one of the most popular shopping malls in Hong Kong, this newly-opened restaurant is different from other existing Xiao Nan Guo restaurants. It aims at appealing to the city's young and hip diners by featuring a crossover between tradition and fashion in design, food offerings and setting. While delicate Shanghaiese cuisine that blends with creativity is served, decorations and setting of the restaurant are fashionable, providing customers with a unique and trendy dining experience.

Owned by the WHM Group, a leading food and beverage business in Mainland China, Shanghai Xiao Nan Guo Cuisine was founded in 1987 in Shanghai. Since then, the restaurant has introduced Shanghaiese cuisine to other parts of China, such as Beijing, Nanjing, Suzhou and Hong Kong, as well as Japan. Currently, the group operates over 30 restaurant outlets.

Xiao Nan Guo differentiates itself from traditional Shanghaiese restaurants by injecting new elements into the traditional cuisine with no compromise on the freshness of ingredients and quality of food. Since it first came to Hong Kong in 2000, Xiao Nan Guo has been well received by Hong Kong diners.

Executive Director of Shanghai Xiao Nan Guo Cuisine said that Hong Kong is truly a dining paradise where diners are eager to try new restaurants and new cuisines, and have a refined taste in food. Xiao Nan Guo's success in Hong Kong, an international cosmopolitan city, proves that the Shanghaiese cuisine and the dining experience they provide are of world-class quality. This strengthens their confidence in further expansion in Hong Kong and elsewhere in the world.

Mr Simon Galpin, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, welcomed the expansion of Xiao Nan Guo here. He said, "As the Asia's culinary hub, Hong Kong offers a wide variety of excellent food from all over the world to the local community and incoming visitors. With our resident population of 7 million and 28 million visitors, Hong Kong provides a sizable potential market for the catering industry as well as serving as a springboard for leading Chinese food and beverage brands, like Xiao Nan Guo, to expand regionally and globally."

Hong Kong's passion for fine cuisine remains strong. According to Hong Kong's Census and Statistics Department, the value of total receipts for the restaurants sector was $20.1 billion in the third quarter of 2008, up by 14% compared with the third quarter of 2007. Over the same period, total receipts of Chinese restaurants increased by 14.8% in value.

"The expansion of Xiao Nan Guo signifies the brand's confidence in the prospects for the food and beverage industry and the business environment in Hong Kong. I wish the new restaurant every success and look forward to assisting Xiao Nan Guo in its future expansion," Mr Galpin said.
