Waraku opens third restaurant in Hong Kong

     Waraku Hong Kong Limited, announced today (August 29) the grand opening of its third restaurant in Hong Kong, Waraku Casual Dining Restaurant, located at Citywalk, Tsuen Wan.

     Waraku is a chain of Japanese restaurants consisting of two concepts. Waraku Japanese Casual Dining Restaurants offer affordable quality Japanese cuisine, while Pasta de Waraku Japanese Casual Pasta & Cafe Restaurants serve Japanese-style pasta and pizza with healthier choices of ingredients.

     CEO of Waraku, Mr Kiyoshi Ueki, said "Hong Kong is renowned as a dining paradise. Our first restaurant, Pasta de Waraku in Citywalk opened in the city early this year and has proved very successful. We are confident that our two new restaurants will prove just as successful." As well as the Waraku Casual Dining Restaurant which opened today, the company also opened a Pasta de Waraku outlet at Plaza Hollywood in Diamond Hill on August 23.

     Waraku currently employs over 110 staff in its three Hong Kong restaurants and plans to open 20 more outlets in Hong Kong in the next three years.

     "The Hong Kong market is far bigger than Singapore, in terms of local population and tourists, making it an attractive location for expansion. Hong Kong's close proximity to North Asia and its sound and vibrant business environment will serve as an ideal springboard to further expand our business into the Mainland China and Taiwan," Mr Ueki added.

     Acting Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, Mr Simon Galpin, welcomed the company's expansion here. He said, "Hong Kong's appetite for high quality food from around the world has formed part of our cosmopolitan culture. Last year, a record-28 million visitors came to Hong Kong. These visitors, combined with Hong Kong's seven million residents, create a sizeable potential market for our restaurants and expose quality brands like Wakaru to a global audience."

     Established in 2000, Waraku is a Singapore-based chain of Japanese concept restaurants. Currently, the group operates restaurants in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia.
