Eight employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 10) pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $110,000 on behalf of 18 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, the three defendants, J.C. Technology Company Limited, Januson Design Company Limited and Education Workshop Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $45,493.97, $35,948.58 and $16,134.06 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other five defendants, Hui Wing Hing trading as Pak Kung Restaurant, Golden News Enterprises Limited trading as Techlink Company, Wan Kin Man formerly trading as Kai Sung Fire Services Eng. Co., Green House Company Limited and Flower Club Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $9,660, $8,400, $1,260, $1,038.87 and $312.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered defendants to pay $176, $176, $100, $90, $150, $130, $76 and $76 respectively as the costs in respect of the claims.
