400 young musicians to perform at Music Office Annual Gala

    About 400 musicians from four orchestras and choirs will perform in the "2007 Music Office Annual Gala" at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre at 3pm on April 1.

     The musicians are trainees from the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. They are members of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band, Music Office Youth Choir, Hong Kong Youth Strings and the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra.

     Under the baton of Tsui Ying-fai, Pak Wing-heng, Angelina Au, William Tsui and Ng Ka-ming, the trainees will showcase what they have learned.

     Programme highlights are Xinjiang folksong "The Legend of Shadi¡¦er¡¨, ¡§Three Revelations form the Lotus Sutra, 2nd and & 3rd Movement¡¨ which attempts to realise man¡¦s search for ultimate perfection in music, the melodious ¡§Cantique de Jean Racine, Op.11¡¨, the string orchestra version of Handel¡¦s ¡§Passacaglia in G minor¡¨ and the famous ¡§Pomp and Circumstance Marches, Op. 39, No.1¡¨.

     Other programmes include ¡§Festival in a Mountain Village¡¨ which is filled with prominent ethnic flavour, popular jazz piece ¡§Autumn Leaves¡¨, ¡§Two Elegiac Melodies, Op. 34¡¨ depicting the arrival of spring after the long winter, the beautifully composed ¡§Concerto for 2 Violins in A minor, Op. 3 No. 8¡¨ and ¡§Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op.47¡¨, a dedication to the Russian Union government during Stalin¡¦s rule.

     Tickets priced at $60 and $40 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions are available to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
