The Director of Drainage Services, Mr Wong Chee-keung, conducted a surprise check on a site of sewer lining works in Central yesterday evening (August 14).
Mr Wong inspected the sewer-lining works which required entry into a sewer manhole and found that the safety requirements were complied with. He focused particularly on the safety precautionary measures taken by the contractor and the front-line workers before they entered the confined space.
"Surprise checks on similar works by the senior management of the department have started and will be continued in the future," Mr Wong said.
Apart from commending the workers for their hard work, Mr Wong also took the opportunity to remind them of the need to ensure that all safety precautions were taken before working in or entering a manhole.
