The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 26) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $120,000 on behalf of eight employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The five defendants - True Light Civil Contractors Limited, Lam Kin Lan trading as AMJ Transportation Co., Hip Wing Engineering (HK) Limited, AMJ Transportation Limited and Barry Chi Hang Chui trading as Chui, Johnson & Associates - did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $38,041.56, $31,276.66, $29,681.45, $13,143.94 and $7,393.27, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $160, $180, $260, $260 and $150 as the costs in respect of the claims.
