Man sentenced for obstructing public officers
*********************************************

A 43-year-old man was sentenced to jail for two months for obstructing public officers in performing their duties during an anti-illegal hawking operation.

Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts was told today (December 8) that the incident took place at the footbridge between Tuen Mun Park and Tuen Mun Town Plaza on January 22 when Food and Environmental Hygiene Department officers were conducting a raid.

"When our officers arrested an illegal hawker at the scene, a man intervened and the hawker fled," a department spokesman said.

The man was sentenced to jail for two months and fined $3,000 for common assault and obstructing public officers in performing their duties.

The spokesman reminded people to co-operate with law-enforcement officers. Obstructing public officers in discharging their duties carries serious legal consequences.
