2018 civic education calendar available free of charge from tomorrow (with photos)
**********************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

The 2018 calendar produced by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) will be available free of charge for collection at various locations from tomorrow (December 1).

The CPCE has once again adopted "Respect and inclusiveness", "Responsibility" and "Love" as the main themes for this year's calendar and invited local animation designer John Chan to design the illustrations. He has reflected the three core civic values by depicting the daily life events of the cartoon cat Din-Dong, with the aim of encouraging the public to be good citizens and build a friendly and inclusive society.

Chan said he has a deep understanding of the core civic values of "Respect and inclusiveness", "Responsibility" and "Love". His designs with a warm touch bring out the important messages of the core civic values. For instance, March's illustration describes the integration of the young and the elderly as well as different races in the community, conveying the meaning of "Respect and inclusiveness". Illustrations for other months also resonate with civic values. In April's illustration, Din-Dong encourages people to take on responsibilities, showing the civic value of "Responsibility". As for the design of September, the scene shows Din-Dong helping an elderly person to cross the road to emphasise the importance of "Love".

The calendar will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at Home Affairs Enquiry Centres, public libraries, town halls, Hong Kong City Hall, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Hong Kong Museum of History and the Civic Education Resource Centre on 7/F, Youth Square, 238 Chai Wan Road, Hong Kong.

An electronic version of the calendar will also be available on the CPCE website (www.cpce.gov.hk/calendar2018) for downloading from tomorrow. For enquiries, please call 2802 0131.
