CS visits Shenzhen Bay Control Point (with photos)
**************************************************
The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, visited the Shenzhen Bay Control Point (SBCP) this morning (September 8) to understand its operation.

Accompanied by the Director of Immigration, Mr Erick Tsang, Mr Cheung met with the department’s front-line staff and received a briefing on the immigration control work of the SBCP as well as the operation of its co-location arrangement. He then visited the Passenger Terminal Building of the SBCP, including the Arrival Hall, the Departure Hall and the Vehicle Clearance Area, to understand the overall operation of immigration clearance services provided by Immigration Department officers for passengers and vehicles travelling between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

The SBCP commenced operation in July 2007, becoming the first border control point to adopt a co-location arrangement. Passengers travelling by cross-border coaches only have to get on and off once for going through arrival and departure immigration clearance within the Passenger Terminal Building. More than 38 million passengers and 4.2 million vehicles were handled by the SBCP in 2016.

Mr Cheung said that the co-location arrangement in the SBCP has operated smoothly and effectively over the years. The arrangement not only provides travel convenience to arriving and departing passengers, but also saves time for them.

During the visit, Mr Cheung chatted with front-line staff and expressed his gratitude for their dedication in providing efficient and quality services for a large number of passengers, in particular over the past summer peak season. Their services also help to promote Hong Kong’s tourism and economic development. He encouraged them to keep up their good work and continue to provide quality services to the general public.
