Funding results of Theme-based Research Scheme 2017/18 announced
****************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the University Grants Committee:

The Research Grants Council (RGC) announced today (July 19) the funding results of the Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) 2017/18 (Seventh Round). Five proposals were awarded a total of $200 million. The list of awarded projects is set out in the Annex.

Announcing the results, the Chairman of the RGC, Professor Benjamin Wah, said, "I am delighted to announce the successful completion of the TRS 2017/18. After a series of vigorous peer-review processes, five outstanding projects have been selected for funding in this round of the TRS exercise. These projects will advance Hong Kong in the areas of gastrointestinal tract cancer and skeletal disorder/injuries treatment, energy storage, air pollution control and big data technology for e-health management, bringing significant impact and benefits to society.

"Credit should go to the well-established peer-review system underpinned by our dedicated panel members and international experts, and the continuous support of the local research community. The 11 TRS projects funded in the first two rounds of the exercise will soon complete. We look forward to seeing their results and achievements in the TRS Public Symposium to be held in December 2017. I am confident these projects will bring about significant impact that is relevant to the social or economic development of Hong Kong."

Details of the approved projects are posted on the RGC website (www.ugc.edu.hk).
