The 11th Symposium on Police Studies
************************************
The 11th Symposium on Police Studies of the Strait-cum-Hong Kong and Macao was held in Police Headquarters from November 8 to 10. Since 2006, the symposium is held annually under the auspices of the Police Association of China (PAC). Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and different Mainland cities take turns to co-host the symposium.

The theme of the symposium this year was “The Prevention and Policing Co-operation against Cross-boundary Crimes”. Same as previous occasions, the 11th symposium aimed to share how police officers and academia from the four jurisdictions prevent cross-boundary crimes through different strategies, and explore how policing collaboration can be further enhanced.

Around 150 delegates including law enforcement officers and academia from the four jurisdictions attended the symposium, which covered a wide spectrum of topics such as Cyber Crime, Telecommunication Fraud, Commercial Crime, Dangerous Drugs, Counter Terrorism strategies, and etc. Twenty-eight research papers were presented and seven experts delivered their commentaries in the plenary sessions. The Symposium Journal incorporated a total of 81 research papers selected on this occasion.

During the symposium, the Mainland, Taiwan and Macao delegations also paid visits to various police units, including the School of Foundation Training, the Police Dog Unit and Key Points and Search Division Headquarters, Marine Regional Headquarters as well as the Police Driving and Traffic Training Centre.

Through scholarly exchange and experience sharing amongst academia and practitioners, the symposium helped inform and enhance police practices amongst the four jurisdictions.
