Appointment of Pro-Chancellor of City University of Hong Kong

     The Government announced today (July 22) that the Chief Executive, in his capacity as Chancellor of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), has accepted the recommendation of the CityU Council and appointed Dr Chung Shui-ming as Pro-Chancellor of CityU with effect from August 1, 2016, for a term of three years.

     "Dr Chung is a business leader and has a track record of public service. He has contributed significantly to CityU for a long period of time. First appointed to the CityU Council in 1998, he subsequent served as Treasurer, Deputy Chairman and then Chairman of the Council during the period between 1999 and 2008," a government spokesperson said.

     According to the CityU Ordinance, the Chancellor may, on the recommendation of the Council, appoint a person to be the Pro-Chancellor. On the authorisation of the Chancellor, the Pro-Chancellor may exercise the powers and perform the duties of the Chancellor, including conferring degrees and other academic awards in the name of the University.
