The temporary office of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (ETO) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSARG) in Jakarta commenced operation today (June 13).
"The main responsibilities of the Jakarta ETO are to represent the HKSARG in matters between Hong Kong and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as a whole, and handle in particular matters between Hong Kong and four ASEAN countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines. Together with the Singapore ETO, the two ETOs will strengthen our ties with the ASEAN countries and enhance our trade and economic relations with the region," the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, said.
Two Hong Kong-based officers have been posted to the Jakarta ETO and will initially operate in the temporary office to help build up connections and prepare for the setting up of the long-term office, so that the latter can start operation as soon as possible.
