Following is the transcript of remarks by the Acting Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, at a media session after attending the Opening Ceremony of 3rd International Forum on the Belt and Road Initiative this afternoon (June 12):
Reporter: Would you repeat what you said about Mr Lau's passing away?
Acting Chief Eexcutive: I am shocked and saddened by the sudden news of the passing of Mr Stanley Lau. I want to express, on behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, deep condolences to Stanley's wife, Irene, his two sons, and his family members. I am sure it is a very difficult period for them. I have known Stanley for quite some years, especially on matters relating to economic development, livelihood issues, labour issues, and so on. Apart from being an excellent industrialist, somebody who is very concerned about Hong Kong's economic development, he has a heart also for the disadvantaged, and that's why he was sitting not only in the economic and labour committees, but he also participated very actively in the employment committees, as well as in the rehabilitation committees. I have every admiration for him. I think he is very passionate about Hong Kong, and all of those who know him will surely miss him.
