***********************************************************

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, continued his duty visit to London, the United Kingdom, and viewed the operation of food trucks in the city on May 21 (London time).

Accompanied by representatives of the Nationwide Caterers Association, Mr So talked to operators to learn about their day-to-day operation and how food trucks operate in a metropolitan city like London. He was briefed by the Association on the information, systems and support they provide to caterers.

The Financial Secretary announced in the 2015-16 Budget to consider introducing food trucks, which are popular abroad, in Hong Kong. The Tourism Commission under the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau was tasked with conducting a study and devised the Food Truck Pilot Scheme. The scheme is open for application from March 31, 2016, until May 30, 2016.

Earlier in the morning, Mr So visited the Warner Bros Studio to learn about its operation. It is one of the largest production facilities in Europe. He then visited the Brompton Bicycle Company, a bicycle manufacturer, which has been designing and building folding bikes since 1975. The manufacturer makes over 45,000 bikes per year and is the UK's largest bike manufacturer.

Mr So also had exchanges with the Chinese business community in London as well as representatives of the design and fashion sector on matters relating to business opportunities and creative industries in Hong Kong.

Mr So will meet with Hong Kong students and young professionals in London on May 22 (London time) and attend a breakfast roundtable at Chatham House on May 23.
