Voluntary Registration Scheme for Vehicle Maintenance Workshops to raise service standards of vehicle maintenance trade (with photos)
************************************************************

The Promotion Day of the Voluntary Registration Scheme for Vehicle Maintenance Workshops was held today (May 21) by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) to encourage more vehicle maintenance workshops to join the Scheme and introduce the Scheme's logo to the public to help them identify workshops that provide reliable services.

To further enhance service standards as well as the professional image and competitiveness of the vehicle maintenance trade, the EMSD launched the Scheme last year following the introduction of the Vehicle Maintenance Workshops Charter in 2013. Around 1,000 workshops have registered under the Scheme so far.

To register with the Scheme, vehicle maintenance workshops should pledge to operate at a quality level not lower than that specified in the Practice Guidelines for Vehicle Maintenance Workshops in terms of the technical, environmental, safety, staff training, service and documentation requirements. Registered workshops must also employ Registered Vehicle Mechanics and have a working bay with a fixed cover, and accept the Scheme's complaint handling mechanism and its decisions.

Registered workshops can display the Scheme certificate and logo for easy identification by car owners and drivers.

Details of the Scheme and the list of registered vehicle maintenance workshops are available at the EMSD website (www.emsd.gov.hk/en/vrsvmw).
