Russian pianist Arcadi Volodos to perform in Hong Kong in July
**********************************************************

The globally acclaimed Russian pianist Arcadi Volodos will return to the city for a recital in July, featuring German keyboard classics including Schumann's early masterpiece "Papillons", Brahms' introspective "3 Intermezzos" and one of the final sets of sonatas that Schubert wrote, "Piano Sonata No. 20 in A".

Volodos' boundless virtuosity and unique sense of phrasing, colour and poetry have made him an ideal "narrator" of Romantic musical tales. Since his New York debut in 1996, Volodos has performed recitals throughout the world with many eminent orchestras and conductors. In 2013 he went on tour with the Gewandhausorchester and conductor Riccardo Chailly to Vienna, London, Leipzig and Paris. He regularly appears at the Berlin Philharmonie, Vienna's Musikverein, the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. Since his highly acclaimed debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2002, he has been invited to return every year.

Since his Carnegie Hall recital debut in 1998, Volodos has recorded a series of acclaimed CDs featuring his interpretations of Schubert's sonatas and Rachmaninov's solo pieces and transcriptions, as well as his live performances with the Berlin Philharmonic of Rachmaninov's "Third Piano Concerto" and Tchaikovsky's "First Piano Concerto". His first CD release, on piano transcriptions of Mozart, Schubert and Liszt, caused a sensation with his virtuoso display of superior techniques. He recently recorded a solo album devoted to the Catalonian composer Frederic Mompou, which won a Gramophone Award and an Echo Award.

"Encore Series: Piano Recital by Arcadi Volodos" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be held at 8pm on July 26 (Tuesday) at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $180, $250, $320 and $400 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk).
