International Arts Carnival to offer summer fun for all (with photos)

     This summer, the International Arts Carnival (IAC) will offer a splendid array of inspirational and enjoyable programmes for all. Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the annual summer arts festival will run from July 8 to August 7 and will feature a series of family entertainment programmes.

     At this year's carnival, performing groups from the Mainland, Australia, France, Japan, Taiwan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States, along with local groups, will present a variety of programmes including multimedia theatre, puppetry, music, dance, interactive theatre for infants, clown theatre, music theatre and magic. Films from around the world will also be screened.

     The award-winning Theater Hikosen from Japan will open the festival with a multimedia musical theatre and puppet version of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", retelling a classic adventure. Performers in colourful masks and dazzling costumes along with exciting staging and projection will delight audiences and inspire children to pursue their dreams. Theater Hikosen is a frequent recipient of Tokyo's Outstanding Children's Theatre Award.

     The All-American Boys Chorus, an acclaimed choir of gifted singers with angelic young voices, will entertain members of the public by performing uplifting jazz and all-time favourites.

     France's pioneering Blanca Li Dance Company will deliver a futuristic dance extravaganza in "ROBOT". The show features agile dancers on stage with lovable NAO robots, together with fluid choreography and dazzling projection blended with the mechanical orchestra of Japanese avant-garde group Maywa Denki.

* "The Adventures of Siu2Fei1" by Shu Ning Presentation Unit
* "Magicrobatics"
* 2016 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp Concerts by the Music Office
* International Children's Film Carnival 2016 by the Film Programmes Office
* Summer Fun Party by the Entertainment Office

     This year, the IAC will also feature an exhibition on Maywa Denki's automated instrument-cum-art installations and its unconventional live performance of novel music-making.

     Outreach touring programmes will include puppetry in "Journey to the Colourful Bubbles" by Little Smudges Theatre, "Voices First" by Zense A Cappella, and the tap dance theatre show "Dr Happy to the Rescue" by R&T (Rhythm & Tempo). Workshops, cultural tours and exhibitions will also be part of the extension activities.
