HK Film Archive launches publication on Cinema City productions (with photo)
****************************************************

The Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has launched a publication entitled "The Essence of Entertainment: Cinema City's Glory Days", which looks in detail at the Cinema City studio's productions and the development of the Hong Kong film industry in the 1980s.

Following Hong Kong's rapid economic development of the mid to late 1970s, film companies struggled to succeed in the volatile market situation of the early 1980s. Cinema City stood out for its unique style of production and the quality entertainment it provided for local audiences. The book contains commentaries by local and overseas academics and researchers, which thoroughly examine the impact of Cinema City from various perspectives including the company's development, marketing strategies, genre creation, film techniques and comedic aesthetics. It also collects thought-provoking oral histories through interviews with Cinema City's creative masterminds, including Karl Maka, Dean Shek, Raymond Wong and other important figures behind the scenes, along with content such as film makers' biographies and a chronology of Cinema City.

The book (with English edition in CD-ROM) is priced at $125 and is now available for sale at the HKFA. For enquiries, please call 2739 2139 or visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/CulturalService/HKFA/en_US/web/hkfa/publications_souvenirs/pub/topicalvolumes/topicalvolumes_detail30.html.
