Jan Jan Kushikatsu, a kushikatsu restaurant from Osaka, announced today (May 10) that it has opened its first Hong Kong branch, bringing the authentic century-old kushikatsu (fried skewers) from Osaka to the city.

Located in the heart of Wan Chai with a cozy 1,000-square-foot space, Jan Jan Kushikatsu offers 35 seats with a bar table and two private dining rooms for customers to enjoy its authentic Japanese izakaya. It is headed by Executive Chef Mr Hideki Abeyama, an Osaka native who has been with the restaurant for over 10 years.

Director of Jan Jan Limited Mr Kevin Shih said, "Hong Kong has very diverse Japanese cuisine but has never had an authentic kushikatsu brand. We are very honoured to be the first in the city."

He added, "Kushikatsu is an extremely popular everyday meal in Osaka. However, the recipes are well guarded by Osaka natives, which means that it is not easy to set up here in Hong Kong. With a decade of experience in preparing kushikatsu, we will make the first Jan Jan Kushikatsu restaurant the best in the city."

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Dr Jimmy Chiang welcomed the opening of Jan Jan Kushikatsu in Hong Kong. He said, "Hong Kong has one of the highest tourist figures in the world and people here love to dine out. It is an ideal place for restaurants to showcase their exciting food concepts and culture."
