Clusters of infectious disease cases in New Territories West Cluster
************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of New Territories West Cluster made the following announcement today (May 9):

Three patients (aged 57 to 69) and a staff member in a female forensic psychiatric ward at Castle Peak Hospital had presented with respiratory symptoms since May 4. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results for two patients were positive for Human Metapneumovirus. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation with stable condition. The staff member has recovered and resumed duty. Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed.

Furthermore, regarding an earlier announcement by Tuen Mun Hospital on a cluster of Multi-Drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) in a male rehabilitation ward, the hospital has continued with the screening procedures and confirmed two more patients (aged 83 and 88) as having MDRA. They were chronic patients and succumbed earlier.

Infection control measures have already been stepped up in both hospitals according to established guidelines. All patients in the wards are under close surveillance. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
