Correctional officers stop fighting among persons in custody and combat illicit activities

     Correctional officers stopped fighting among eight persons in custody at Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution this morning (May 3).

     At 7.14am, eight male persons in custody became involved in a fight inside a dormitory. Among them, two picked up fibreglass stools as weapons. Officers at the scene immediately stopped them and called for reinforcements. Four persons in custody sustained minor injuries. They were treated at the centre hospital. The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     As preliminary enquiries revealed that those persons in custody were suspected to have engaged in illicit gambling activities, the Correctional Services Department (CSD) immediately launched a search operation to combat such illicit activities.

     During the operation, unauthorised articles including betting notes were seized. Six persons in custody suspected to have been involved in the illicit activities have been removed from association for investigation.

     In order to assist persons in custody to rehabilitate in a safe and orderly environment, the CSD spares no effort in combating illicit activities of all kinds.

     Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution is a medium security prison for the detention of male adult persons in custody who have a record of repeated imprisonment.
