Young local virtuoso Wu Chun-hei to give suona and guan concert in May

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), "Our Music Talents Series: Suona and Guan Concert by Wu Chun-hei" will be staged in May. Young suona and guan virtuoso Wu Chun-hei will show his superb skills by playing a variety of compositions and adding new elements to Chinese music.

     The programme will include the guan, guzheng, dizi and percussion composition "Brooks Run Through the Deep Valleys"; the guan, sheng, guzheng and double bass piece "Lunedì" (Hong Kong premiere); the double suona and bangu work "Nai Lou Baan" (Hong Kong premiere); the suona and piano composition "City of Night" (world premiere); the dizi, sheng and bass guan piece "Music for Winds"; and two world premiere commissioned compositions.

     Wu Chun-hei is currently a suona musician of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, a suona instructor of the Music Office, and a suona instructor of the Junior Music Programme of the School of Music of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Wu graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) Degree and Master of Music degree, having majored in suona and guan under Guo Yazhi, Law Hang-leung, Xia Boyan and Lo Wai-leung. He won the Best Performance Award at the first China Wind Instrumental Music Festival in 2011 at the first All China Suona Invitation Competition in 2013. He has performed in Beijing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Tianjin, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shantou, Malaysia and Russia.

     The LCSD is presenting the Our Music Talents Series to nurture and support local artists and groups and provide them with performing opportunities, enabling them to develop and showcase their achievements. "Our Music Talents Series: Suona and Guan Concert by Wu Chun-hei" will be staged at 8pm on May 22 (Sunday) at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall.
