Arrangements for receiving new television programme channels starting from April 2, 2016
************************************************************

The Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) today (March 31) issued a consumer alert reminding members of the public of the related arrangements for receiving new domestic television programme channels after the expiry of the domestic free television programme service (free TV) licence of Asia Television Limited (ATV) on April 1, 2016.

"Starting from 12am on April 2, 2016, the existing six digital television programme channels (i.e. channel numbers 11, 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17) and two analogue television programme channels of ATV will cease to broadcast free television programmes. Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) will start providing two analogue television programme channels (RTHK TV31A and RTHK TV33A) from the early hours of the same day. Viewers who would like to watch RTHK's analogue television programmes will not need to rescan the analogue channels of their television sets. They only have to select the channel numbers which are originally pre-set for ATV's analogue television programme channels on their television sets from the early hours of April 2, they should then be able to watch the analogue television programmes provided by RTHK," a spokesman for the OFCA said.

Meanwhile, HK Television Entertainment Company Limited (HKTVE) will transmit its digital free television programme channel, ViuTV Channel 99, through radio waves starting from the early hours of April 2. Viewers who would like to receive the programme channel should first rescan for channels on their integrated digital television sets (iDTV) or set-top boxes and then select ViuTV Channel 99 in order to receive the programme channel.

"OFCA is now coordinating with the broadcasters concerned to ensure that the transition arrangements of the channels can be completed smoothly in the early hours of April 2," the spokesman continued.

As the arrangements for channel changes involve adjustment of television broadcasting networks, interruption or instability of TV signals may occur during the period. Viewers who cannot receive the new television programme channels during the early hours of April 2 are advised to try again later.

Please refer to the related consumer alert (www.ofca.gov.hk/en/consumer_focus/education_corner/alerts/tps/2016newch/index.html) for details on how to receive the new free digital and analogue television programme channels.
